How do I find out if my textbook is available on reserve?

Answer

You may be able to find your textbook in the library! Textbooks on reserve can be checked out for two hours at a time.

You can use UDC Search to find out whether your textbook is available on reserve. Search by the name of your textbook, the name of your professor, or the name or course number of the class.

In UDC Search, select Course Reserves:

This purple symbol indicates that the book is related to a course.

Underneath that you will see the text "Available at Main Library Reserve" with a series of letters and numbers following. This is the call number. Share the call number with our circulation staff and they will pull the book for you.

Remember, you will need your student ID to check out the book!

You may sometimes find a book that doesn't have a call number. It is attached to a course, but is listed as "Not Available."

This usually means that the book has been ordered but is not available yet.

If your textbooks are not available on reserve, speak with your professors. Encourage them to ensure their books are included on reserve for future semesters. The library cannot purchase additional reserves books mid-semester, but your professor can make a personal copy available to students through the textbook-on-reserve program. Professors can reach out to the library to find out more.
