How do I check out books from the library?

Answer

The collections of the Learning Resources Division are available to all UDC students, faculty, staff, alumni association members, and retirees. Students and faculty of Washington Research Library Consortium (WRLC) member institutions may use UDC’s facilities and borrow circulating materials. Materials may be checked out at the Circulation Desk on the 3rd floor of Building 71 (4250 Connecticut Ave. NW). Users must present a valid UDC ID (OneCard) or ID card from their WRLC member institution when they check out materials.

Please note that books at the UDC Library are currently stored off-site and may not be browsed at this time. In order to access a book at the UDC Library, please request the item through UDC Search, or contact our Circulation Desk at circ@udc.libanswers.com or 202-274-6009. You may also request a book in-person at the Circulation Desk on the 3rd floor of Building 71 (4250 Connecticut Ave. NW). Requested books will be available for pickup at the Circulation Desk the following day.

Unaffiliated residents of the District of Columbia may not borrow materials but, with advance notice of at least one day, may use our book and media collections on campus. Please contact the library Circulation Desk at circ@udc.libanswers.com or 202-274-6009 to inquire.

A patron wishing to borrow materials that are currently checked out may request at the library circulation desk that a hold be placed on the items. The requestor will be notified when the items have been returned. Items will be kept on hold for only three days after notification. Remember that Consortium Loan is another option when materials are not available at UDC.

Materials are to be returned to the Learning Resources Division Circulation Desk (Building 71, 4250 Connecticut Ave. NW, 3rd floor) on the Van Ness campus.
