A literature review typically appears after the introduction of your research paper. In this section you give you should provide summary and analysis of research you have gathered (articles, books, web resources, etc) on your topic. By summarizing and providing analysis of the outside resources you've found you give your reader context and a basis for understanding the rest of your paper. In other words, if someone read your paper and didn't know anything about your topic, the literature review section would provide them with the information they need to read and understand the rest of your paper/project-without it they might be lost.
